Calendula

Bright happy shades of yellow and orange – one for the pollinators

Calendula are an all year round bloom in my garden. Sowing itself and growing lovely happy blooms even through winter, feeding the pollinators when there’s not much else for them. Leaves and flowers are both edible and have known health benefits. You can dry the flower heads to add to tea. Leaves can be used in salads or added to a garden greens pesto mix.

Description

Seeds:  approx 50 open pollinated Calendula seeds (in all shapes and sizes)
Sow: in punnets or direct Spring-Autumn.
Seed-saving: Allow flower to mature on plant and drop petals. Harvest seed heads when dried and brown, or leave to happily sow itself in your garden and regrow without your intervention.

Please keep in mind I am a home gardener and while I have been saving and sowing my own seeds myself for years, they will sometimes not grow exactly as planned. Germination rates may vary, but I am being generous with the amount of seeds in each packet to account for this.
